This month, Haberfield Dental Practice celebrates an extraordinary milestone in Sydney’s Inner West – a century of serving the community.
According to local council historical records, Haberfield Dental Practice is the longest standing dental practice in its same location in Sydney’s Inner West, remaining virtually unchanged for most of its century-long journey.
The building’s façade is understated, with a renovated interior, and true to its community heritage and surrounding, is located on Ramsay Street in the heart of Haberfield Village.
The traditional land custodians were named the ‘Eora (Darug) tribe’ and was later owned by W. J. McKenzie, with the land on which the building stands being passed to Anges McKenzie in 1915. In the following years it was on-sold twice, being acquired by D. Baines in January 1919. In August 1919, Baines applied to Ashfield Municipal Council to erect a brick “Dental Chambers” on the land.
In 1922, the tiny single-storey dichromatic brick building of residential character came to life. Over the years, the Dental Chambers always traded under the dentists’ name, with a metal name plate always beside the door. In 2013, the practice took on its official and current name of ‘Haberfield Dental Practice’.
Over the last 100 years, Principal Dentists including Dr Frank Tomlinson, Dr M Leonard Gabriel, Dr David Thomas, Dr Richard Costa and now more recently Dr Matthew Salameh treated generations of families in Sydney’s Inner West.
In decades gone past, dentistry was not the experience you would receive now. Your Dentist in Haberfield still has patients who have been treated there at the practice for over 70 years! Some of these patient stories of going to the dentist in their younger years were not so pleasant, however now the patient stories couldn’t be more positive. As your Emergency Dentist is focussed on modern dental treatment being a pleasant and positive experience!
Your Dentist Near Me, with Dr Salameh at the helm has a clear vision to help the community love their smile, but more importantly love their dental experience. Breaking down the barriers and fears that accompanied a trip to the dentist is so important to maintaining good oral health and true wellbeing.
Your Dentist Five Dock is a family practice and is all about celebrating and servicing the community by providing a welcoming, friendly, and relaxing environment. Your dentist Haberfield often refers to itself as the ‘smiley dentists’ because it aims to continuously create a place where Leichhardt and Inner West locals enjoy coming back and visiting the dentist. It’s particularly important to ensure that children have a very good first experience, setting up their oral hygiene practices for the long term.
The team at Haberfield Dental Practice are building a reputation based on trust and exceptional service by investing in the latest state-of-the-art equipment and technologies including using the latest A-dec dental chairs, iTero 3D scanner and onsite x-ray machines as part of its patient care.
Although progress and technology is important for your Dentist Ashfield, this year it is about celebrating rich history and how it has shaped who we are today. Haberfield is known for being one of the very few suburbs in Sydney that has preserved its Federation heritage, and the community who are part of the fabric of the suburb. Haberfield Dental Practice is proud to be part of the rich history of this area, and hopes to be here for another century.
To mark this milestone century celebration, the team at Haberfield Dental Practice has put together a collection of images from Ramsay Street, Haberfield which are on display in the surgery from a century ago!
